in the last month...

In the last (little more than a) month...
I turned the big three oh!
Ryan turned seven.
Nick gashed his forehead after being shoved into a boulder in our yard.
Nick turned two.
Ryan had strep.
Nick got his tonsils & adenoids taken out (miserable).
Ryan got strep, again.
and
Nick got scarlet fever.
Thank goodness Barrett is healthy through all of this.

Despite all the craziness that has been going on in our lives, we did have a wonderful Christmas with my whole family at our home.

(there are pictures to document all of this, but I'm needed by kids...maybe later)

Please, New Year, come soon because I need a break!!!

Look-a-Likes?

Maybe it's just me, but I think Barrett really resembles his Uncle Craig.

Kind of how I feel lately.

My Little Monsters on Halloween

I'm a little (okay, a lot) slow, but I couldn't resist some Halloween pics.
Isn't the shot of Barrett & Eliza about the cutest thing?
We were in St. George for Eliza's blessing, so we
did the whole trick-or-treat thing at Gram's house (yes, my mom did dress up).

Also, I laughed my butt off at Craig & Britta this year...
if only Jeff and I were that much fun.
You really had to see it in person to get the full effect.

(thanks for letting me steal the pics, Britta)

Indian Peaks Elk Hunt 2009

We hunted "Spike Only" this year
because I wanted
Meat in the Freezer.
We ran out of elk meat in June
and we didn't draw a
cow tag...who doesn't draw a cow tag?

Now that's what I call...
"Haulin' Ass!!!"
You go Craig (the whole hind end
is strapped to his back).
We couldn't have gotten it
off the mountain without you.

Our Sweet Barrett (and Nick & Ryan, too)

I finally took some pictures of Barrett before he lost that new baby look. He is absolutely the BEST BABY EVER!!! I truly did not know that babies could be so good. He has really just settled right in to our home and made everything even so much better than it already was.
Anyhow...here are some snapshots of Barrett (better than the blurry one that I posted previously) and of course I had to put pictures of my other boys, too.

I love this one!

Every Mom has to have one like this, I had my brother take it.

My brother told me I had to post this picture
because he thought it was groovy.

And Nick...

and Ryan, too!

It's A...

(excuse the blur...Dad's been in charge of the camera)
Boy!

Barrett Samuel Stanworth was born at 2:15 pm on September 1st.
Only 4 hours of labor and delivery...don't know why I'm so lucky to have it so easy.
He weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces!!!
He is 19" long and so perfect and we are so in love with him.
We are already so blessed by having him in our home.
More info and pictures to come when mom is feeling more human (soon I hope).

Tomorrow's The Day

Finally, September 1st is just hours away. I'm a week over-due and I still feel great, so we'll head to the hospital to be induced some time tomorrow. I'm kind of bummed because I was #1 one the hospital list, but for some reason they had me on the C-section list instead of the induction list. Now we just have to wait half the day until they call us an hour before I'm supposed to be there. Good thing they give us an hour because we live an hour away from the hospital. I'm surprised that it has been so easy to go a week past my due date and I'm glad I'm being induced or I'd really have to start wondering when this baby would ever get here. Let the countdown begin!

No Baby Yet

So, I'm officially two days past my due date and still no baby. I feel great and I'm still holding out for the first of September. I'm not sure if this baby can get any bigger, but either way we're just days away. I can't believe that we don't know the gender of this baby, but Jeff seems to think that it is really exciting not knowing. I, myself, don't see the excitement in not knowing...even after all this waiting it seems silly to not find out and be prepared for what gender of baby we will have. I haven't bought a thing. I take that back...I bought diapers and one boy outfit and one girl outfit. That is it. I haven't made anything, decorated anything, or picked out favorite names. It really almost seems LESS exciting to not know what we're having, but at least when it is all over Jeff will be glad that we did it this way and I'll be able to tell people my honest opinion on the subject. On the other hand, I have washed, scrubbed, touched-up, and cleaned-out everything inside (and outside) of my house. I had my windows cleaned, I scrubbed my floors and baseboards, I meticulously went around my house with white paint and a craft paintbrush and touched up all the places on the baseboards that the vacuum or kids had nicked, I dusted, shifted cupboards and closets, and have pretty much done all that I can think to do before we have another noise-maker in our home. I guess that all means that I'm pretty much finally getting out of denial and realizing that we really are going to have a baby here in a few days.
Here are my guesses, so that I can make it official:
I'm not going to guess gender because I have no clue.
Birthday: September 1st Weight: 7 lbs 14 oz (Nick was 7lbs 10 oz) Length: 21"
Well, the denial was nice while it lasted. How about your guesses? Wish me an easy delivery like my last two!!!

#3 Has Arrived

Eliza Lynn King was born yesterday, on August 8th. After a long day in the hospital, it was determined that Britta's tailbone was in the way and was preventing Eliza from being born. Just before midnight Britta had a C-section and Eliza came out healthy @ 7 lbs 9 oz and 21".
She is so beautiful!
Now only a few more weeks until the last of the 4 babies in Jeff & my family will be born. Technically we only have two weeks until I'm due, but I'm still feeling great and thinking I can go that third week to make it to September. Guess we'll wait and see.

Nick's Health Update

We were able to get into the Pediatric specialist early (after I called and told them my concerns about waiting until August to do the biopsy when I am due just a couple weeks after that...didn't really want to be traveling to a specialist when I was about two weeks from delivery).

Last week the doctor's office called on Monday and said that they had an opening for a consult the next day. After talking with the doctor for over an hour about all of Nick's many crazy issues, he decided that we should just get the biopsy over with. That afternoon we were informed that they were able to set Nick up to have his biopsy and scope on Wednesday morning. They really bent over backwards to accommodate us.

So we've now ruled out what we though Nick had, Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Nick is being treated for chronic esophagitis and some stomach issues (basically really bad acid in his stomach). We've been on some new meds for a week now and Nick is...sort of doing better. He's sleeping better, but still not eating or drinking much and he's still pretty inconsolable sometimes. If things don't improve in about another week or so, we'll have to do a feeding tube, yuck! In the meantime, we're also still up in the air about why his white blood cell count is triple what is should be (should be 0-12 and he is at 32). Guess we'll just keep waiting things out and seeing if things improve.

Other than that...No we still didn't find out what the gender of this next baby is. We're still going to be surprised (much to the amazement of all who really know me and how anal I am). Jeff & Ryan think it's a girl and I think it's a...well I just think it's a baby. We have about??? 4 weeks or so to go (August 25), but I'm still hoping to go over a little and wait until September 1st to have this baby because I like the idea of a September birthday better than an August birthday. I guess the school teacher in me just thinks September sounds better.

I Haven't Dropped off the Face of the Earth

The last few months have been so busy and crazy that I really haven't even thought about blogging.
Nick had tubes put in his ears in March and by the end of May we realized that he was in that "1% that may still get ear infections after tubes" when both his ear drums ruptured. He was fairly miserable because I kept not going to the doctor...thinking it couldn't possibly be an ear infection. After two weeks, his ears finally cleared up and we were good for about a week or maybe two when Nick came down with the flu for two weeks.
(None of us did much sleeping during the two weeks of Nick having the flu...
we just let him sleep wherever he would crash. Most of the time he slept of the couch)

After two weeks and a two pound weight-loss, his doctor had him admitted to the hospital for a series of tests and some much-needed fluids. We checked in and Nick pretty much screamed from the moment we checked in, throughout the night, and well into the morning. When his doctor came to check on him at noon the next day he told us that he was actually going to release Nick due to the fact that he (Dr. Miller) had called the nurses station at 10:00pm and was told that Nick was screaming and he called at midnight and Nick was still screaming and he called at 4:30 am and Nick was still screaming...all the while I was pacing the pediatric floor with him (and my giant belly) to try to keep him somewhat appeased. At 5:00am the nurses took him on a 45 minute wagon-ride so that I could catch a quick nap before morning arrived. By noon he wasn't really showing signs of improvement, but we couldn't do another night in the hospital and Dr. Miller thought we should go home and try things for a day or two since Nick had been re-hydrated through IV's while he screamed all night.
When Nick's doctor released him he told us that they actually did find a few things of concern that could contribute to Nick having been an impossible baby for the last year and a half. I won't go into all the details, but the two temporary medications they have put him on have definitely helped him be more happy and content. The medicines are temporary until we can see a specialist on the 28th of July and then Nick will have a BIOPSY (scary word) of his esophagus on August 7th. Jeff likes to tell people that the name of what is wrong with Nick is the word elephant with some extra p's, s's, t's, & i's. It's a really long word!

In the middle of the whole flu thing, we had the craziest rainstorm that I have ever seen. Jeff was standing at the front window watching it rain and commented that someone was going to get flooded from this torrential downpour. I looked out the kitchen window into the backyard and saw a waterfall of water coming towards our house and told Jeff it wasn't someone that was going to get flooded, it was us! He threw on his shoes and ran out to work on a trench away from our house while I called our ever-so-helpful neighbor, Andy, to come help (I wasn't much help with my enlarged belly and Nick having the flu). We diverted a major crisis thanks to Jeff and
Andy's quick work on getting a trench to divert the water.

So, that's the latest at our house. It is now the middle of July and I feel like summer is flying by. It is just now getting hot enough to go to the pool, June was super-cold and we actually wore pants quite a few of the days and even sweatshirts on some days. I hope the rest of the summer goes a little more smooth than the first part, but I don't anticipate it happening between the consults, our ward girl's camp, the biopsy, and then shortly thereafter we'll add another little one to our family!

#2 Has Arrived

I'm a little slow on this one, but the 2nd of the babies between Jeff & my families has arrived. Jeff's sister, Michelle, had her baby about 5 weeks early. Maxwell Steven came while his dad was away on business in Miami. Try as he may to get home in time for the delivery, Dad finally made it home the next day to meet his son. What a sweet looking baby!
We have a couple months break between now and when Britta and I are due in August.
I'm getting larger every day and I'm not necessarily looking forward to the hot months ahead. Guess I'll have to head to St. George often where I can lay in the pool all day. We still aren't finding out what the gender is (despite the great deal of persuasion and bribes I've tried with Jeff)...guess I'll be able to tell everyone whether or not it really is "fun" to not find out before delivery. Everything is going great here. Still feel great, but I wonder how much weight I'm going to put on this time as I feel like I'm doubling in size each week. The doctor told me on Tuesday that the baby is measuring about 3 weeks big...gee, thanks!

Off My Lazy Behinder...

Going To Have To Photoshop the Brightness
Nick Loves Toothbrushes!
Love Those Chubby Cheeks!
I Love Black & Whites!
Don't Let That Innocent Look Fool You!
Such Big Blue Eyes!

So I finally took some more recent pictures of Nick. I don't know what took me so long. I've been waiting for the weather to get nicer, but just when I think I'm going to take some pictures of Nick in the fruit trees or tulips...it snows again. Here are some indoor pictures and I guess I'll keep waiting on the outdoor ones, but I'll miss all the trees in blossom and the bulb flowers that have come up.

The First of Four...

Our sister-in-law, Erica, had her third boy on April 23.
Everett Roe will be the first of four babies born into our family in the next 4 months.
We are so excited that he is finally here (mom is especially excited after a failed induction a few days prior to delivery). Can't wait to see him next month!

March In Review

I'm such a slacker at actually posting...even when we have things going on in our lives.
In March Jeff I and spent 5 blissfully child-free days in San Francisco while Gram played at home with the boys. The highlight of the trip for me was that we went to the Orpheum Theater and saw Wicked. SO, SO, SO good. Loved it. No pictures because they were just random shots of Jeff and I touring. You know... Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square, China Town.

I wish the weather would warm up, but it always snows the day after I have hope of warm weather. We recently got enough snow to go sledding on the land by our house.

Two weeks ago we went to the Jazz game with Craig & Britta. It was fun to watch them beat the Suns and go into overtime to do it. It is definitely a different view from the floor seats vs the nose bleed we sometimes end up in. Even from floor level, it's hard to tell that the picture is Shaq...who is HUGE!!!

Last weekend we went "sort-of" camping with my family (we stayed in cabins). We went up the canyon to this old mining town near Marysvale.

Nick Walking

Nick's a little slow on the walking (he's 16 months the end of the week), but this is for Gram!

Seriously? Yep, Seriously!

For those of you who haven't realized it in the last year...Nick has been tough! He has not done a single thing by the book and he is very needy (like his dad). He slept on our couch until he was 7 months old because he didn't like his crib, he never took a bottle, he hated pacifiers and didn't suck his thumb, he would scream while in the car, he wants to be constantly entertained, didn't sleep through the night until he was a year old and now it is hit and miss, he's allergic to milk., had like a gazillion ear infections until we had tubes put in two weeks ago.....I don't think I need to go on (though I could).
So, no one could have been more surprised than Jeff & I when we realized that we are going to have another baby come September 1st. Eeek! How did that happen when we were done having kids (okay, I know how it happens)? Guess it was meant to be, right?
I've had several months and three doctors visits to adjust (the last of which my doctor told me to get on board because I was going to be having a baby).
Well, now you're all in on the happenings. I haven't been sick, haven't been tired, and we're not going to find out what the gender is (goes against all I believe in).
I've been in a bit of, shall we say, DENIAL.
Man, I just finished loosing 20 pounds...no wonder those last 5 wouldn't come off!

What I Made For Dinner Tonight

I never used to consider spaghetti a real meal because Prego and noodles just didn't seem like you could call it filling. In the past years I've changed my mind. Spaghetti is one of Jeff & Ryan's favorite meals, but the sauce has to be homemade (much, much better than the bottled stuff....who even knew that you could make your own spaghetti sauce?). Until graduating from college, really I didn't cook much. I didn't know that people made their own bread, tomato soup, spaghetti sauce, and such. I got this recipe from my friend Amy and it is the best. It freezes well, too.

Amy Neal's Chunky Spaghetti Sauce
Olive Oil
Minced Garlic
1/2 Large Onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
3/4 cup zucchini, chopped
1/2 cup celery, chopped
1 small can mushrooms (or fresh if you are that good)
1 lb Italian Sausage (or hamburger), browned
1 pkg pepperoni, cut into halves
14.5 oz can stewed tomatoes
28 oz can tomato sauce
6 oz can tomato paste
Italian Seasoning

In large pot saute olive oil and garlic over medium heat. Add all the veggies and saute until they are good and brown and soft. Add all tomato products and a few tablespoons of Italian Seasoning. Bring to a boil and add meat and pepperoni, Reduce to low on cook until ready to serve.
This works great to dump in the crock-pot to let simmer all day after you've put it together.

Super Yummy! Thanks Amy.

Growing Too Fast

I keep telling Ryan that he is growing too fast, but seriously...I mean it. Last summer I thought I was so on the ball and I bought his school pants when they were on sale. He was 5, so I figured that a size 6 would fit him for a while. Well, about two weeks into the school year, all of those jeans were floods. I quickly ran to the store to buy 6 new pairs of jeans in a size 7 to replace the ones that didn't fit him. I, being naive, figured that they would last us for the rest of the school year. Now, I'm finding myself in the same predicament. Every pair of jeans that Ryan puts on hits him about at ankle. So...today I got on Gap.com and ordered him more jeans in a size 8 this time to get us through the next few wintry months (hurray for 50% 2nd pair of kids denim today). My guess is that we won't be lucky enough to have them fit him next fall...but there's always hope.

Blah, It's February

So I've decided I'm not too good at this blogging thing. Too much commitment? Maybe! I think updating the rest of the world on my life once a month is more than suffice, but I feel like a slacker when I see the weekly, and even daily, blogs of my friends and family. We must have a boring life because I just don't feel like I have that much to share that often. You know the drill: we get up, have breakfast, send Ryan to school, put Nick down for a nap, do some office work, Ryan comes home, we make lunch, do some homework, play in the afternoons, make dinner, do baths, go to bed, and then we do it all over again the next day with some minor changes once in a while.
I did have Nick in to the doctor AGAIN the other day with another lovely double ear infection. This is like the umpteenth ear infection he's had, so we're going in to and ENT on Friday to deal with tubes and hopefully tonsils and adnoids -sp?- (for the poor sleep, the sleep apnea, and the snoring). I will keep you updated on the upcoming doctors appointment as I hope it will encourage some better sleep habits from Nick.

Viva Mexico

Okay, I'm finally getting back on the blogging band wagon. Last month was so busy. Seems like time flew after the whole broken fingers incident.

Here's the recap of the last few weeks....
We had Christmas....big success!

Britta & Craig announced that they are expecting the end of July/beginning of August...yippee...that means Jeff & I will have 3 nieces/nephews in about as many months. Our sister-in-law, Erica is due in April. Jeff's sister, Michelle, is due the end of May/beginning of June. And now Britta. We are so excited. Craig & Britta will be terrific parents. Hopefully I haven't scared them too bad with my Nick horror stories.
Went to Manzanillo, Mexico on the 27th for 8 days...85 degrees!

Came home to LOTS of snow. Burr, big change from a high of almost 90 to a high of 15 degrees.
